sophisticated maggie

i was going through some of my old folders of images and

came across these lovely Miu Miu ads with Maggie Gyllenhaal..

and looking at them now- made me still like them just as much

as i did when they first came out a few years back..

they seem richly classic and timeless.

i'd have to say that donnie darko and the secretary are my top

two picks for maggie's movies...donnie darko - because that

was when i first noticed her-

and the secretary because it was a beautifully shot film...

and although i haven't seen her in some of her

other roles, i did see the dark night,

which was pretty good also.

and this one with a marshlandish - sunset dropping behind her

on the backdrop while standing on a red carpet..

sometimes she can be such a sophisticated style queen-

even in black shoes with black stockings and black dress

.

and then there is the ad with the bunny...

innocent little rising obsession

these midnight blue and black suede Marni wedges

will go nicely with a pencil skirt and some

semi transparent knee highs...

or some black stockings and a short dress-

or even pants might be the

thing to pair with these classic yet modern day

fancy risers...

they have a Deco/1930's/Bauhaus feel about them

and look like the sort of shoes my stylish grandmother

wore wear around when she was

a perfume girl at Buffum's department store.

4-H Club members gained this useful skill through clothing projects.

and was named Cook County Style Queen in 1933.

Faye Dunaway

is a scorching force of nature.

Though she spent much of her time in the spotlight as a blonde,

she was definitely no demure pushover.

From the very beginning, Faye was an intimidating presence that you had to take seriously. She projected a cool, clear-eyed intelligence and didn’t wear her vulnerability on her sleeve. Though classically beautiful and gloriously feminine, she always possessed an inner strength. She was tough as nails.

You didn’t mess around with this woman.

Faye made a trio of movies in 1967 which effectively encompassed her film debut. They included The Arrangement and Hurry Sundown

But it was Bonnie and Clyde that became a legendary success and made Faye an overnight sensation. Her portrayal of the sensual untamed

Bonnie Parker

brought her her first Oscar nomination and she became permanently associated with a particular kind of glamour. The fashion magazines of the era were all over Faye.

Theodora Van Runkle designed her wardrobe for the film. Soon women everywhere were wearing berets, cardigans and midlength skirts.

Ms. Van Runkle was also responsible for the costumes for Faye’s next motion picture extravaganza, The Thomas Crown Affair. Her incredible clothes were the cutting edge of 60s chic.

She was a powerhouse.

a blade runner retro-fit future

the other night someone told me

that they thought of me as a pris...

then there was a pause

and went on to add

'Pris from Blade Runner...'

i took this as a supreme compliment

and must tell you

that i have indeed been told

this quite a few times....

i certainly am in love with the look of

combining past with future.

an all time, anytime, no time

all put into one...

mixing utilitarianism

with overly fancy.

space age club kid

with a bit of antique frills...

and then find an old diner on the side of a dark alley

at 4 in the morning for that last and first cup of coffee...

rich warm delicious coats

a fondness of rich warm autum-y layers of colors are

delicious anytime of the year.

today i am headed for an outing of

thrift stores and vintage shops...

with this sort of look in mind.

this sort of look is mostly

always on my mind.

really like the shape of these coats,

along with the huge collars.

silky little socks with heels are sweet

and old lady street trampy

in a good way.

trees inside the cracks at home

she threw herself a house warming party

and wore one feather in her hair

and watched the trees grow from the cracks

she

can't go home...it's not there.

but she can visit it sometimes

if she tries..

bygone hat

they say i am very patient

 and that my retaliation tactics are far more subtle than others-

perhaps...

but just as lethal

oh

but i say 

let bygones be bygones

i have more noble things to aspire to.

i will wear these please

today i am supposed to

day dream and take a 

vacation- they tell me

so today i will dream about

walking down along side the

river in buenos aires

to a little dim lit restaurant 

wearing things like these. 

the very proper topper

a hat for taking a break on the ground and

then conjuring up a plan b

some fancy work on this pretty taupe hat...

and how about adding a bit of turquoise to your ensemble...

a nice purple ribbon hidden under the net

and a simple topper for everyday strolls..

i found one like this at the antique mall where my shop is -

just needed a bit of a cleaning and that's all.

perhaps for a bullfight or lunch down on the river

by tom's sawyer island.

i simply love coats with faux fur collars,

fancy button up shirts, little sweater vests,

feminine oxford heels. red lipstick and 

1930's style snap shots. 

eva green in her cracks style outfit.

and the winner is....

this is one of the best hats i have ever seen.

it says-

if there was a way

to re-create this on the

outside of my head..

this is what my world would look

like from the outside looking

in...

or how it is supposed to look or seem.

hazy and far away and perfect.

no one can be exactly like me..

except you perhaps?

and i don't think this is excessive.

i do think more people should over dress.

bring me more feathers please...

silver or gray hair

i use purple shampoo and sometimes parts of my hair look like this.

when i was younger,

my whole head looked more like this.

i thought it looked pretty.
